Reptiles are air-breathing animals, they have lungs, and their outer skin is genenerally scales or horn-like material. Most reptiles are members of the class Reptilia. Reptiles generally have short legs or they move on their belly. Many reptiles have a tail which they use for swimming or defence.
Some lizards are able to shed their tail if they are grabbed by another animal. The tails generally grow back, unlike most most other species where a lost appendage, such as a tail, does not grow back!
