We generally think of the word 'worm' to mean an earth worm but there many animals with no legs and a long cylinder-like body that are referred to as worms.
There are around 6000 specieces of worms but most animals which we consider to be worms are non-arthropod invertebrate animals.
According to Wikipedia [1] worms can be divided into three groups:
1 Flatworms. These have a flat, ribbon- or leaf-shaped body with a pair of eyes at the front. Some are parasites.
2 Threadworms, roundworms, and hookworms. Threadworms may be microscopic, such as the vinegar eelworm, or more than 1 metre long.
3 Segmented worms, with bodies divided into segments or rings. These include earthworms and bristle worms.
