Bats are flying mammals of the Chiroptera family. They are the only mammals that are naturally capable of proper flight.
There are approximately 1,100 different bat species on planet Earth. Almost 70% of all bats are insectivores and almost all the others are fruit eaters (frugivores). A small number of bat species are carniverous.
