Condors

There are two species of Condor which are New World Vultures. They are large birds, in fact they are the largest flying land birds in the Western Hemisphere.

The two species are:
- The Andean Condor (Vultur gryphus) which inhabits the Andean mountains.
- The California Condor (Gymnogyps californianus), found in the western coastal mountains of the United States and Mexico.

The Andean Condor is a large black vulture. It has some white feathers around the neck. Male birds also have white patches on their wings. They are larger than the female condors. There are only a few feathers round their necks.

Condors scavenge for food, mainly eating carrion.
