There are more than 2,800 species of Orb Web spiders in over 160 genera. They are the third largest family of spiders and are found in a wide range of sizes and colours. The females are generally larger than the males. Orb Weaver spiders are so named because most of them spin an orb shaped web.
Orb weavers tend not to bite people. If they do then it could result in some discomfort and swelling for 24 hours.
